At the heart of cultural diplomacy is the idea that experiencing something together brings us closer. So, if we can experience dance with someone, we are less likely to think of them as the “other,” and more likely to think of them as that dancer with whom we had an incredible time or with whom we learned and grew! Another important tenet of cultural diplomacy is teaching and learning that go both ways – or flow between two parties with equitable value.

To engage more deeply with our DMV dance community, to better understand with whom  and for whom we create, HSB will be participating in a cross training series with a number of sister companies. These workshops are meant to explore artistic process, cultural context, ritual & inspiration, and intersections between our practices. Workshops will be open to the public and free of charge.

Participating Artists for Winter 2023 include Ama Law of Project ChArma, Chitra Subramanian of chitra.MOVES, and Lauren DeVera of The Lion’s Den.

This project is supported by An Individual Artist Grant from the Arts and Humanities Council of Montgomery County.
