Wolver Maroon is a feminine howl at the blood moon. An excavation and activation of caretaking via gossamer dreams, it kisses and lightly asphyxiates between prayer, wreckage, grief-stricken entrails, and a devastatingly soigné bite. It is Heart Stück Bernie’s newest dance theater work that sings from base, fanged udders and wily survivalism of darkest hours—to spun-out phantasmagoric spectacle. From stark solo moments to a raucous ensemble of 32, it includes art direction from Ben Furgal, lighting from Ben Levine, costumes by Claire Alrich and Faryn Kelly, a life size Lite Brite, and a first aid kit for existential whys to question, upend, carry, and hold us all accountable for day on the other side of night.
Wolver Maroon was made possible by the New England Foundation for the Arts’ National Dance Project, with lead funding from the Doris Duke Foundation and the Mellon Foundation, and by The Carla Fund for Choreography and Performance, established by the Howard and Geraldine Polinger Family Foundation.
Wolver Maroon was first conceived and researched in the GALLIM Parent Moving Artist Residency and Marble House Project Parent Artist Residency, both in Summer 2023.
